Contains Art was established in 2012 as a not-for-profit social enterprise, converting to a charitable incorporated organisation in 2021 (charity number 1193931). At East Quay, Contains Art has been scaled-up and expanded, both in size and ambition.
Contains Art CIO was founded on the belief that who you are, where you live and what you have, should not constrain access to creativity and culture. Its purpose is to raise ideas, open minds, invite discussion and encourage a social, economic, and environmental conversation through culture, as well as bringing simple joy, beauty, and wonder into people’s lives. It seeks to confound expectations of what visiting an art gallery is like in a place like ours.
The cultural programming and education work of Contains Art would not be possible without the generous support of very many funders and foundations who have supported us over the years. The current gallery programme is supported by: Arts Council England, Golsoncott Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
