Queer Nature Club X East Quay: An Introduction to Queer Nature
DATE: Wednesday 13th May
TIME: 7pm - 9pm
LOCATION: East Quay Kitchen
Booking required in advance. Pay what you can (suggested cost £5 - £10)
Join us for an introduction to 'queer nature', and a creative writing workshop to ignite the imagination with Queer Nature Club founder, filmmaker and artist, Daniel Baker-Wells. Through tales of epic flights, enduring partnerships, and feathery transformations, seabirds and waterfowl feature in stories, poetry and myths as symbols of imaginative possibility.
Drawing on rich cross-cultural material and scientific studies, Daniel will explore how the queerness of seabirds can help reshape ideas of identity and gender and re-enchant our place in the natural world.
There will be a chance to learn about local birdlife and participate in creative writing exercises, in a relaxed environment with drinks and snacks. No prior experience necessary. Materials will be provided.
This event is for the LGBTQIA+ community, friends & allies, & anyone interested in exploring nature through a ‘queer' perspective. Queer Nature Club is a queer-affirming and trans-affirming programme.
This event is for adults 18+. Young people between 16 and 18 are welcome, if they are accompanied by an adult 18+.
Venue and Access: East Quay, Watchet. The workshop will take place in a fully accessible venue, with gender-neutral and disabled toilets. Paid parking is available near East Quay next to the Watchet Visitor Centre.
