Join us at East Quay for an in conversation between exhibiting artist Bryony Gillard and curator George Harwood Smith, as they explore the ideas and inspirations behind Bryony’s new solo exhibition, Outfall, on display at East Quay until 3 January 2027.

Working across moving image, sound, and sculpture, Outfall draws our attention to the often invisible materials that move through our pipes, sewers, bodies, and waterways. The exhibition explores the complex relationships between waste, our bodies and the environment, inviting us to think differently about the systems and substances that connect us. In this informal conversation, Bryony and George will delve into the themes of the exhibition, the processes behind the work and the wider influences shaping Bryony’s artistic practice.

‍About the artist

‍Bryony Gillard is a South West-based artist and researcher whose practice spans writing, workshops, performance, moving image, and exhibition-making. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally, including projects with Focal Point Gallery (Southend), ESTUARY (Kent), Jerwood Arts (London), Playbill (Amsterdam), Ocean Archive by TBA21 (Venice), Tate St Ives (Cornwall) and Turf Projects (Croydon).Bryony holds an MFA from the Dutch Art Institute and is a lecturer on the MA Fine Art programme at the University of Gloucestershire.
