Join us for LAND, a symposium taking place on Monday 9th March 2026. Building on last year’s conversations about peripherality and place, this gathering turns our attention to the ground beneath our feet — to questions of land, justice, access, and climate.
This event brings together artists, growers, community activists, and policy and place-shapers to consider how land can be cared for regeneratively, shared equitably, and imagined anew.
Through two thought-provoking panel discussions, creative reflection, and shared conversation, we’ll explore how the ways we live with and govern land shape our collective futures.
Morning Panel: Land Systems – Power, Ownership & Transformation
A discussion exploring who controls, benefits from and governs the land in relation to climate and justice futures.
Confirmed panelists: Imandeep Kaur: Civic Square, Alastair Parvin: Open Systems Lab, Nadia Shaikh: Right to Roam
Afternoon Panel: Land Practice – Regenerating our Relationship with the Earth
This session examines our personal relation to land as stewards, caretakers and humans.
Confirmed panelists: Anita Roy: Wellington Transition Town, Daniel Baker-Wells: Social Material & Queer Ecology Club, Kate Hughes: Agroecological forester, farmer and author
Creative Workshops & Demonstrations
Complementing the panels, optional workshops offer space for reflection and creativity. Engage with the day’s themes while participating in hands-on activities to connect with land and each other.
Continuing Conversations
The day will also include time to meet others connected to the topic locally, to build on ideas sparked throughout the event. There will also be a quiet space to read and learn in your own time.
A delicious seasonal lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day by the East Quay Kitchen.
