East Quay and Queer Nature Club South West will host an informal, relaxed day of practical hands-on workshops, including creative writing, drawing & printmaking exploring queer birds, animals and ecosystem. The session will be led by artists Sixto-Juan Zavala and Daniel Baker-Wells.
The session will include:
- An exploration of queer nature poets, creative writing through nature, and using text in rewilding
- Drawing birds from life and the imagination with Sixto-Juan Zavala
- Experimental print-making with natural inks and natural materials
There will be the opportunity to contribute your work and ideas to a new commissioned banner that will be co-created by LGBTQIA+ communities across Somerset, Devon, and Dorset; and which will be taken to future Pride parades. No prior experience necessary.
After the workshop, you are welcome to stay and watch Drag on the Quay, East Quay’s annual drag show featuring South West performers, later that evening at 7:30pm.
Venue and Access: East Quay, Watchet. The workshop will take place in a fully accessible venue, with gender-neutral and disabled toilets. Paid parking is available near East Quay next to the Watchet Visitor Centre.
This event is for the LGBTQIA+ community, friends & allies, & anyone interested in exploring nature through a ‘queer' perspective. This event is for adults 18+. Young people between 16-18 are welcome, if they are accompanied by an adult 18+.
