SILAT AND GAMELAN IN THE COURTYARD

Join us for a showcase of Silat, a dance-like style of Malaysian martial arts, accompanied by Gamelan, classical Indonesian music.
Featuring gongs, drums, swords, and story characters from the Ramayana (a Hindu epic, popular in the Malay Archipelago), the performance will combine martial arts, music, weaponry, and history form Malay and Indonesion culture. You are welcome to join in at the end of the performance with your own dance moves!
About the performers
Liam Grange is a martial arts practitioner based in Devon who was trained in Silat in Malaysia. Studying various East and Southeast Asian martial art styles, he now trains adults and children alike. William Barnardo trained in Javanese Gamelan in Indonesia and is now based in Devon. He performs and teaches around the country in schools, prisons, nurseries, and community centres encouraging the growth of Indonesian culture in the UK.
