Spoken Word Night - June
DATE: Wednesday 18th June
TIME: 7 - 9pm
LOCATION: East Quay Kitchen
All are welcome to join us for our informal spoken word evenings, held once a month in the East Quay Kitchen, hosted by Elaoise Benson. You are invited to share your words and thoughts in response to the invitational theme, or just come along to listen and enjoy a cup of tea in good company. The bar will be open for drinks and snacks.
This month's guest speaker will be Henri Lang. The invitational theme is The Wild Thing Inside of us. Nearing the summer solstice, June marks a time of peak solar energy, abundance, and inner illumination. It's a time to embrace our own radiance, align with the transformative power of the sun, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. What's inside of you that's restless to come out? What's that crazy, wild idea that you haven't been able to vocalise? Do you have any pearls of wisdom or moments of clarity to express? Be your wild and wonderful selves this June.
Poetry Prompt:
Your hips are dazzling
by which I mean, dazzle me. Let's
dazzle each other off the edge
of this square earth. Let our hips sing
arias that would make Callas sigh. No,
let the song of our dazzling hips
making Pavarotti cry.
- BYH K LANG
Introducing Henri:
Henri Lang is a therapist and poet working in Bristol. She is fascinated by what is beyond, banished or more than human. Her poetry explores the potential of the erotic, myth, dreams and the natural world to bring humour and insight to the absurd and tricky business of being human.
