COLOURMAKERS’ APOTHECARY

During her time in Studio 10, Ione will create a ‘Colourmakers’ Apothecary’: a Colour Lab for making inks, paints and pigments from found and foraged materials.

Through working with natural pigments, drawing, writing and photography, Ione explores how our relationships with the more-than-human world helps reveal what it means to be human.

Visitors are invited to check out all the different materials and see the alchemical processes in action!

About Ione:
I’m a visual artist & colour-maker working with natural pigments, drawing, writing & photography to explore how relationships with the more-than-human world reveal what it means to be human. Using colour gathered from specific landscapes, I create responses to species that live between categories (weeds, slugs, eels) as metaphors for liminality, hybridity, grief & belonging. At a time of ecological crisis & social polarisation, my work questions how material engagement with land can draw us away from binary thinking into a more entangled, relational understanding.

Colour Lab is how I share my practice more widely: I show people how to make inks, paints and pigments from plants, minerals and waste materials gathered from the land around us. In workshops we consider the land as a living art studio, a wild creative collaborator who we can learn with and from.
