Treat yourself to a stay at this bespoke pod, perched above East Quay. Every year, East Quay selects a different artist for the Pod 5 Artist Residency, inviting an emerging creative practitioner to live and work at East Quay for two weeks, working with the community to help inform, design, and create a transformative installation in Pod 5.
This year, the commission was designed by artist and architect, Carlos Peñalver. His artwork ‘Watchet 2025’ is part of an ongoing series of experimental drawings called “Mind Maps”. To create these drawings, Carlos reproduces his experiences at a specific time and place, collecting pieces of memories and letting them reconstruct themselves naturally on the canvas, or in this case, on the walls of Pod 5. During the construction of this piece, Carlos explored one of East Quay’s core programming themes: ‘Joy and Wonder’. He realised that he was drawing the question itself, leaving the answer open to each person’s reading. To find our more about Carlos and his work, please visit his website: Carlos Penalver
The Immersive Art pod is situated on the second floor of East Quay. It includes a small kitchenette complete with a fridge, sink, kettle, and toaster for simple meals, or of course you can just head to East Quay Kitchen for a delicious meal or some cake. The beautifully finished bathroom is complete with toilet, sink, and shower. The viewing terrace boasts stunning views over the town, harbour, and sea.
Tucked onto a raised platform in the corner is a standard double bed, with luxury organic bedlinen and an organic wool duvet, on top of a luxury natural mattress. A ladder leads to a mezzanine nook which overlooks the steam railway line – called the Stitching Snug - the perfect place to while away the afternoon.
While you're here, come explore to the galleries, chat to artists in their studios, eat at the friendly restaurant, and take in the incredible views of our Somerset coastline and Watchet Harbour. The interior design of this pod changes each year commissioned by a different artist.
Please note that this pod may not be suitable for some guests due to the multiple stairs. Children are not permitted to stay in this pod.
Please note that we keep the price of Pod 5 as low as possible so that as many people as possible can get to experience each iteration of the pod as it changes every year!

Fabulous place with wonderful views of the harbour and beyond. Easy walking distance of places to eat and lovely pubs. Love to come back

Lovely place to stay, and a great location. Staff and food were all really top-notch and it was really nice to stay in the pods. The surrounding area is also really beautiful and this "modern" building is tucked away so as to not affect the more traditional coastal scenery. Great walks to local food and beaches as well. The papermakers are also a must-see!

We had a lovely one night stay in pod 5. The accommodation is as described and shown in the pictures. It has everything you need and fantastic views. East Quay has a very relaxed feel. We would certainly stay again. A comfortable, relaxing stay.

Brilliant place to stay. Pod 5 has spotless, soundproof, warm accomodation with a great view. It is very cleverly designed with everything you need. The shower is superb. The artwork offers a lovely quirky addition, designs have been drawn on recycled items. Everything is thoughtfully done and offered a great experience. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating, as are the people of Watchet.

Wow! WHAT A FIND!.. If you want the Wow-factor then you’ve misty definitely found the right place in Pod 5! Floating high in the sky, with beautiful bird’s eye views of Watchet Harbour and the coastline beyond. This perfect little pod, with it’s bright, designer interior ticks every single box. With the most comfortable bed, compact kitchenette, surprisingly spacious shower room AND your very own quirky added extra, A DREAM ROOM! (assessed via a ladder). East Quay is a vibrant, yet picturesque location, a great example of new complimenting old. Watchet, is a charming fishing village, with at least three museums (our favourite being the Radio Museum), a good selection of pubs (Pebbles bar we can highly recommend) and a bustling little high street, packed with a selection of upmarket gift shops, antique shops and cafes. If you want to get away from it all and sample what must be, one of the best places to relax and watch those stunning Somerset Sunsets. Pod life Is a must for you too
