Studio 4 - Maddie Rock
Maddie Rock is an artist and printmaker living in Wiveliscombe, Somerset. Maddie has been working in the Print Studio for the last three years and has now moved into Studio 4 to focus on a new project. Recently returned from two months travelling through Norway, she is responding to the country’s extraordinary and varied landscapes of mountains, fjords, Arctic tundra, glaciers and waterfalls. Through sketchbooks, photography and drawing, she is exploring the processes that have shaped these landscapes over millennia, with particular interest in the scale and retreat of Norway’s glaciers. Witnessing their decline has prompted reflections on climate change, rising sea levels and the erosion of the UK coastline, drawing connections between distant landscapes and those closer to home.
During her studio residency, she plans to make large-scale drawings responding to the mountains and glaciers encountered in Norway, alongside drawing and observing the local coastline. Moving between Studio 4 and the print studio, these explorations will inform a new body of print-based work.
Maddie Rock (b. 1968, Bradford) studied Fine Art at Camberwell College of Art, London, UK, 1986-87 and Ruskin School of Art, Oxford, 1987-93. She worked in design, teaching, horticulture, and latterly in Visitor Experience developing immersive experiences at National Trust Kingston Lacy, Dorset. Since 2020, she has focussed solely on her own art practice, exhibiting in Dorset and Somerset. Her work has been selected for Sentinel, Tremenhere Sculpture Gardens, Penzance; Thinking Inside the Box, Hatch, Somerset, UK; Lustre, 30 years of SAW, Musgrove Hospital, Somerset, UK and ACEarts Open 25, ACEarts, Somerton, UK and featured in Exmoor Magazine, Autumn Edition 2026. She is an active member of Albatross Printmakers and East Quay Print Studio.
